Helsinki has a new design hotspot: the iittala & Arabia Design Centre. The centre is a tribute to the heritage of iittala and Arabia – two of Finland’s most celebrated design and lifestyle brands – and is located in the Arabia district of the city, where the history of the brands dates back to the 19th century.

It is a space where visitors can immerse themselves in the history of the brands, discover iittala and Arabia products and find inspiration through a diverse programme of activities. Above all, project initiators iittala envisage the centre as a podium for discussions and content in the field of design and a place that connects the brands to the local community. The centre houses Design Museum Arabia, the iittala & Arabia Design Centre Store, Design Lab and the Arabia Art Department Society.

The brief was clear and clearly ambitious; the kind that suits us down to the ground. Putting our project management skills to work, we collaborated with the iittala & Arabia project team and local architects to bring the blueprints to life and transform 1800 m2 of space into sublime Finnish interiors. We oversaw the installation of principle design features, including glass, copper and aluminium walls, and produced custom-built displays and furniture made from locally sourced ash wood. The result: a contemporary creative space honouring the iittala and Arabia design ethic.
