"Iittala is an advocate of sustainability..."
Visitors to the ‘Ku’damm’, one of the world’s best known shopping boulevards, get a true design experience in the 110-square-meters store. To offer a glimpse into the company’s creative process, one wall is outfitted with casting moulds used in Iitala’s factory in Finland, for instance for the unique Ultima Thule glassware or Alvar Aalto vases. Also on display are some of the 10.000 glass colour recipes the company created since 1881. Another feature is a multifunctional granite-clad kitchen island that can be used for events and demonstrations.
The store’s construction was a smooth process from the first structural work until the final installation, all of which took just one month to complete due to the fantastic collaboration with iittala. Some walls had to be refurbished, while other existing walls were removed to create an open plan. iittala is an advocate of sustainability, so some original elements were kept intact and further embellished, such as the existing oak floors which received a new finish.
